While summer is beautiful, it does present a few challenges when planning your photoshoot. Near the end of June is the longest day of the year that the sun is up later in the day. This means that the sun doesn't go down till after 9:00 at night. If you have young children, that have a bedtime before 9 we will have to find areas with lots of open shade. I generally like to shoot within two hours of sunset, for the best light, but often that isn't convenient for everyone, and I do my best to make whatever light I have work. The other challenge is the heat. Warm temperatures make for glossy faces, and tired, cranky children. Bring a cloth to blot, and plenty of water to drink. Small snacks for the children will keep their spirits up. One easy remedy for the heat is to head to the mountains. Temperatures are generally 10-20 degrees cooler in the upper valleys and mountains. Summer is also a great time for extended family photos at reunions.
